Pickguard Shields & Shielding

CUSTOMERS CLAIM COPPER PICKGUARD SHIELDS ARE HAVING A POSITIVE EFFECT ON THEIR TONE!

SONIC UPDATE – When I started selling Strat and Tele pickguard shields I had no idea how popular they would become. I knew that shielding worked and that by offering them at an affordable price point others would be willing to give them a try. But what I didn’t expect was the numerous e-mails I started receiving claiming that the pickguard shields were having a positive affect on their tone. At first I attributed this to the fact that the reduction in EFI and RFI noise was what everyone was hearing. That is, until I started receiving e-mails stating that the shields were not only reducing EFI and RFI noise but were also eliminating static pickguard buildup and somehow enhancing sustain and the harmonic output of the pickups. This really puzzled me because the copper shields are non-ferrous (not magnetic) and shouldn’t really have an affect on the pickups. But, here’s a thought, brass is made up of copper and tin and we all know one of the tonal benefits of brass is sustain. So, lining the pickguard and cavities with copper is having a very positive effect on a guitars sustain. Anyway, just having a quieter guitar is reason enough alone for me. Any extra benefits are just icing on the cake. – Monte Allums
